Army-Navy Game / December 6

Go Navy! Beat Army!

Annual viewing of the Army/Navy game is Saturday, December 6th at noon. Bring a snack or 2-liter soda to share. Wear clothes/shoes that would be appropriate for playing touch football during half-time.

Timberline Ski Trip - March 27-29

Get ready to hit the slopes! The annual Ski Trip will be March 27-29 at Timberline Ski Resort in Davis WV. We will be staying at "Lost River Lodge" on the Winterset trail (same house as 2007's ski trip) . Total cost for the trip including ski rental, lift ticket, food, transportation, and lodging will be about $180.00 plus $30.00 security deposit.

Sign up as soon as you can, as space is limited. You may sign up as early as the PLC meeting on December 4. A deposit of $60.00 is due on or before December 18th to guarantee your spot.

Winter Cabin Camp - 1/30-2/1/2009

Hidden Valley Scout Reservation is the place to be the weekend of January 30 - February 1 for the annual Winter Cabin Camp.

Cost will be $13.00

SCOUT SUNDAY - February 8

As a show of support and thanks to our chartering organization, we will take part in Scout Sunday on February 8th. Meet at the church scout room at 8:30 for the 9:00am service. Wear full uniform.

2010 National Scout Jamboree

Keystone Area Council will send a Contingent of 72 boys and 8 adults to the National Scout Jamboree to be held July 26th- August 4, 2010 at Ft. A.P. Hill, Virginia. This will be the highlight of the year-long celebrations commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.

If you wish to go to the National Jamboree, you must apply online BEFORE April 1, 2009. A $10 application fee must be paid via credit card at that point; then a copy of the confirmation is printed out and mailed to Council with a check or money order in the amount of $100. The full $110 will be credited to each Scout’s overall Jamboree Fee, which is anticipated to be $1,300. Attendees will be selected for the contingent by the council.

Online Rank Requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class

Are you looking for a fun way to work on your advancement? If so, check out the BSA website, where a new series of videos brings the Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class requirements to life.

At http://www.scouting.org/applications/rankvideo.aspx , you’ll find individual video segments for each Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class requirements.

The videos do a good job of introducing each skill, usually using Scouts as instructors. They’re a fun way to introduce the requirements, although the videos won’t replace real-life instructors or the Boy Scout handbook. (In fact, the videos often refer viewers to the handbook for more information.)

NEW FIRST CLASS REQUIREMENT!

Beginning January 1, 2006, an additional requirement will be added to the requirements for First Class rank. Scouts beginning their First Class requirement work after this date must complete the new requirement. Scouts working on First Class requirements prior to this date will have until June 30, 2006 to complete First Class rank without completing the new requirement. The new requirement is as follows:

"Tell someone who is eligible to join Boy Scouts, or an inactive Boy Scout, about your troop's activities. Invite him to a troop outing, activity, service project, or meeting. Tell him how to join, or encourage the inactive Boy Scout to become active."

The new requirement tests the candidate's persuasive communications skills and can help make Scouting available to more boys.
